Felted Garland : A Holiday Decor DIY

I LOVE CHRISTMAS! With living on our own this past year, it is extra exciting to fill this space with cozy things that feel like home. Bring the holidays into the mix, and you bet the second Thanksgiving ended, our little apartment was filled with twinkling lights, pine scented candles, spruce garland, whimsy ornaments and we even cut down our own tree this year! I love decking the halls and walls and spending any minute I can with friends and family. Yeah, Christmas is my fave.

Getting in the DIY spirt goes hand in hand with Christmas, it always has! My mom is always sewing quilts and pillows and teddy bears this time of year (she’s an elf, I swear), and I like to spend extra time on wrapping and making ornaments and getting my craft on (see last years holiday wreath DIY here!) I love relaxing and watching Hallmark Christmas movies with a project sprawled out on the carpet. This year I just had to make felted garland! A whimsical and colorful addition for our tree that we’ll pack up every year and bring out each Christmas (even if it doesn’t end up on our tree in later years, it will be always be great to string around windows, shelves, mirrors, wall frames, etc!) It reminds me of Whoville and I’m obsessed.

Things you’ll need:

Felted balls (I purchased 3 packs from this wholesale supplier) / Copper wire (32 gauge, 24 yards = one spool. One was enough for me!) / Needle / Ornament hooks

Step 1: Empty all the bags of felted balls and lay in front of you (mainly to enjoy all the colors because they’re ridiculously fun to look at altogether 😉 )

Step 2: Thread your needle with the copper wire and give a little twist so it stays put. Begin to thread! I would thread about 10, slide to the end, and put about an inch of space between and repeat.

Step 3: To avoid tangling and to make for easy storage and decorating, I made 5 garlands about an arms length in size! I didn’t pay too much attention to patterns or colors, makes it feel more homemade 🙂

Step 4: For easy hanging, add a ornament hanger to the ends to hook on your tree!

Step 5: Decorate and stare at your tree for way too long. I love that it adds a little extra somethin’ somethin’ when the lights are off!

And with a few extras, this tiny tree from the dollar spot at Target got some love, too!

Please tell me I’m not the only one who gets a little extra crafty during the Holidays?! Bring on the peppermint hot chocolate and The Grinch and twinkle lights. Happy holidays!
