Nate & Amy

Nate & Amy: Wedding day at the family cottage full of nostalgia and connection to family & nature, Pine Lake, WI

Nate and Amy had a dream of a day at Pine Lake, Amy’s family cabin passed down from her grandparents. Everything about this cabin is intentional and meaningful. Every piece of furniture or poster or curtain or knick knack that I commented on, someone would follow up with a story about who made it, where they found it, which year it came into their lives. The vases and trinkets on the table tops belonged to their grandparents, the boat that you see labeled “into the mystic” is named after their wedding song, and the boat Amy’s grandfather gave her grandmother as their wedding gift was their “getaway boat”. A precious locket was given to Amy as a wedding gift, and her mom wore her own mother’s scarf in honor of her. This whole property is an heirloom that was passed on with so much love. The memory of Nate and Amy’s day will become an heirloom of itself, and I love that it began in a place with a story.

They simplified their already simple day to accommodate 30 or so family members and close friends. These modifications could not have been easy for Nate and Amy, but they never wavered in their joy for this day. Amy and her MOH Mary greeted me in their swimsuits when I first pulled up. They just got back from a boat ride and lake shower. A family member was assembling flower arrangements out of found foliage. The lovely ladies of Fersk Floral Artistry were creating a beautiful marigold drapery amongst their other lovely natural bouquets and creations. Nate was ironing his shirt and hanging on the balcony with friends and family. He’d wave down to his mom and sweet niece. Amy wrote her vows while her best friend and officiant put some curls in her hair. They met one another on the dock for the “first look” and were in arms reach of one another the rest of the day. I loved how much time they spent together. After dancing under string lights, Nate and Amy projected their phones onto a big sheet where they could connect with family and friends who couldn’t physically be there with them. It was such a fun and thoughtful gesture amongst the pandemic! Cigars for the fellas at the end of the dock and bare feet around the fire ended the night. It’s hard to explain the genuine joy and the beautiful feeling of this day, so I’ll let the photos share their wedding day story!
