The colors were warm and the light was beautiful, it was the fall day that everyone had hoped for and was perfect for this unique, short and sweet wedding day that was entirely tailored to fit their personalities. Their perfect wedding day. Scott works at Urban Evolutions, a super cool shop in Appleton that features gorgeous flooring, furniture, and just about anything that you wish you could put in your own home. These items are handmade and made with intention, thought, and uniqueness in mind. I love to roam around that store, ooh and aah at the custom wooden tables and wall hangings, and was so exited to see that their wedding day incorporated some amazing handmade elements and an overall urban, industrial feel.
For starters, both their ceremony and reception venues are not even open to the public yet (!!!) adding a fresh, new and industrial vibe right off the bat. The salon that the girls got ready at, Fabric, was also brand new and entirely wonderful inside. I have a feeling that their ceremony site just became one of my favorite new venues and places in Appleton. I have driven passed this big white building for years and have always wondered what was inside. Assuming storage or abandoned, I always thought it was beautiful with so much potential. It went up for sale, and an amazing thing happened in Appleton… The Draw. The Draw is an art gallery, a place to collaborate, a space to host events and a location that will hold music nights and fashion shows and pop-up restaurants. It is simple and intimate, stunning for a wedding ceremony like Scott and Courtney’s. Art adorned the clean white walls, the flooring (put in by Urban) was rustic, trendy, and created an aisle in its pattern. Scott and Courtney wanted a simple wedding day, one surrounded by family and one where they didn’t have to get caught up in anything other than saying “I do.”
Scott made the arch they were married under, which was designed when building apartments. The pattern was from a high rise gardening cultivator and the greens placed on top were morning glories from their yard (how cool!!) Courtney’s sister Amber had a huge hand in so many fun elements of this day, from creating the bouquets from her garden and crepe paper peonies to the amazing (and hilarious) cake at the reception. What a talent! The girls chose their own dresses, and the guys chose their own attire, from bow ties to ties to vests, everyone looked wonderful! Of all the perfect and different and simple and trendy things that decorated this day, my favorite moment of all was Scott seeing Courtney for the first time as a bride. A sucker for emotions on a wedding day, this moment made the whole room choke up a bit. My next favorite, climbing up a latter to the rooftop for photos! This job gets cooler and cooler every day, I swear.
I love that Scott and Courtney didn’t steer away from their vision, even when it may have seemed easier to do at times. The morning of her wedding day, Courtney commented that as much as she’s excited for this day, she was more excited for what was to come after, a life, a cozy home, a future with her guy.
